Before Ivan began working at El Herrero in 2006, he said he saw little value in iron. He would have looked at a piece of iron and said "this is useless" and thrown it away. But since beginning his work as a blacksmith, he's found great value in iron. He loves the process and the challenge of creating products that will spark interest in his customers. And after spending several years working at El Herrero, he is quickly becoming a master craftsman.
Ivan's dream is to spread the trade of blacksmithing across Nicaragua, where it is currently practiced by only a very few people. With many friends out in the streets, committing robbery and selling drugs, Ivan hopes to give them an alternate lifestyle and more fulfilling future through teaching them the art of blacklsmithing.
