When Salamon began working in the El Herrero shop in 2006, he knew nothing about ironwork. This is true across Nicaragua; blacksmithing is a nearly unknown trade throughout the country. But now that Salamon has spent a few years working with iron, he is becoming a master craftsman. And, he has grown a great desire to spread the trade throughout his country.

El Herrero is a unique place that teaches men in the community of Los Brasiles to become blacksmiths. Although blacksmithing is a passion for Mike & Dave, who run El Herrero, their goal is not to create a network or industry of blacksmiths. Instead, El Herrero is a Christian ministry, with the goal of establishing leaders; leaders in the community, and in their own household. Humility, responsibility, pride, love and grace are the values which you’ll find echoed throughout the El Herrero shop. Not just your ordinary iron shop, for sure!

And, what’s better, is that Salamon’s interview confirms that the vision is being executed. As the son of the pastor who’s land the shop uses, Salamon has been around ministry his whole life. But, he acknowledges that this ministry is as fresh as it is effective. Effective at building leaders in Los Brasiles. Leaders like him.
