How to Go Green (and Fair Trade!) this St. Patrick’s Day
Posted on March 4, 2013 by greenheart_admin
Ahhh, Spring is in the air, and with it comes St. Patrick’s Day! Time to run through the park looking for four-leaf clovers, proudly sing traditional Irish songs & spread some green-hearted cheer!
When it comes to celebrating, it truly doesn't get greener than this: a locally made, recycled green tumbler. These glasses add a seriously personal touch to any party! But if your drinking alliances lay elsewhere, check out these recycled Rolling Rock glasses or soda bottle glasses.
We think every day should be celebrated with chocolate, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception: these mint chocolate bars from Divine are also produced with environmentally friendly cultivation methods. Green all around!
St. Patty's Day is the perfect excuse to have friends over to gather 'round the table, and these hand-painted dinner plates made by artisans in Tunisia are dishwasher safe (see: easy to clean after a party). Check out the whole matching family here!
Looking for a festive Irish coffee drink to perk up your weekend brunch?
We've got the perfect recipe:
6 oz hot fair trade coffee of your choice
1 1/2 oz organic whiskey
1 tsp Fair Trade brown sugar
Organic whip cream/creamer to taste
Fair trade nutmeg or cinnamon for garnishBut! If you love the sound of a tea kettle whistling and crave the aroma of a delicious cuppa, look no further: this decadent coconut chai green tea is creamy, delicious and hand-processed by tea artisans in India.
And of course, what goes hand-in-hand with tea (or Irish coffee) better than curling up with a movie and cozy pillow - made on bamboo looms with 100% natural cotton no less!
No matter what your plans are this holiday, we're raising a toast to being green during this easy breezy transition into Spring. Cheers!

Spring Brunch Party & Greenhearts Fresh Chai Recipe
Posted on April 9, 2012 by admin
Ahhh, Spring. You bring a sigh of relief and a warm fuzzy feeling to our very being.
Here in Chicago, spring has been making itself known. The tulips are in bloom and the sun has been shining, all inspiring us here at Greenheart to celebrate (given, we are a rather joyous bunch)
Having recently purchased some very adorable recycled sundresses as well as some spring themed home goods, we thought a brunch party was they way to go!
Check out some images of our delicious spread below:
Our tasty brunch from milk and honey, in our franjipani spring enamel ware. That blur in the background is our director of ecommerce, Kimberly.
Tin filled with some fragrant Cinnamon sticks... perfect for soaking in chai! (checkout our recipe below)

Greenhearts from scratch hot chai recipe:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup Half & Half (or non dairy alternative)
1 full teaspoon black tea
1 pod cardamom
2 pea sized pieces of fresh ginger (mulched)
1-2 big size whole black pepper
1/8 cinnamon stick
Instructions:
On a hard piece of paper or cutting board, crush all of the spices together. You can do this in advance and store in an airtight tin or container... although I prefer to make fresh and soak in my milk/water mixture in advance.
Add spices & tea and bring milk and water to a boil for approximately 15 minutes, stirring consistently.
Strain and serve, add honey to taste.
Makes 1 cup.
