Distant Village

Distant Village works with fair trade artisans in the Philippines that make eco friendly and fair trade packaging.

Distant Village is a Chicago-based company that works with fair trade artisans in the Philippines that make eco friendly and fair trade packaging. It was founded by Richard Cohen in July 2000 after he developed strong relationships with the world's finest designers of handmade packaging.

Distant Village is committed to environmental sustainability. A cradle to cradle perspective is used to consider the source of the materials, the use of the packaging, and the re-use of the packaging for other purposes, giving it a longer life-span to minimize waste. The materials Distant Village uses are eco-conscious using abundant and renewable resources.

Distant Village strives to create mutually beneficial relationships throughout the global community through fair and ethical business practices. They support their community members in the Philippines and are committed to donating a portion of their profits towards organizations that contribute toward the progress and betterment of developing nation communities.

Distant village is committed to job creation, fair wages, pre-payment to support artisan workshops, and steady, guaranteed demand chains. By engaging industries in remote villages, families thrive, children have futures, and local economies flourish. In addition, Distant Village is actively involved with its workshop communities and contributes toward improvement and betterment programs, including its Scholarship Program for Children of Artisans.
