Cards from Africa is a fair trade company that makes beautiful handcrafted recycled paper cards in Rwanda. Their cards are handcrafted by young people who have been orphaned by genocide or AIDS and are responsible for younger siblings.

Cards from Africa is a a part of a new generation of African businesses setting a trend in our divided world. They make high quality paper products in Rwanda, available to the international market at competitive prices. In return, they offer well-paid employment to those who need it the most. Their business model is to provide a stepping-stone for their staff to transition easily to another career or start their own business someday.
In addition, Cards from Africa is currently developing a program to effectively teach entrepreneurial, management, and practical business skills to their staff. By unleashing creativity, teaching valuable skills, and fostering self-worth, they are confident that someday they will be able to access the international market themselves and contribute to a thriving economy and better quality of life for all Rwandans.
Their greeting cards are all handcrafted by young people who have been orphaned by genocide or AIDS. The cardmakers are all heads of households, responsible for providing for the remaining younger siblings in their family.
Cards from Africa is deeply committed to fair trade principles. Their minimum hiring age is 18, in order to protect the educational opportunities of children in Rwanda. They pay above-market wages in the local context and encourage the employees to save. The cardmakers are able to feed their families and send their younger siblings to school. All of the paper is made from scrap office paper that would otherwise be burned, contributing environmentally to the local economy.
