"Asha". The word itself is meant to uplift and inspire. In Bengali, it means "Hope." Asha Imports strives to bring hope to the poor and oppressed people of the world by providing them with the resources and educational opportunities to rebuild their lives.

The mission of Asha Imports is to provide a voice to those who have no voice.

By purchasing a recycled sari product by Asha Imports, you are providing fair employment, educational training, and healthcare to women from the some of the poorest areas and slums in Calcutta, India.

The sari materials were purchased at a fair rate from poor areas of Calcutta, and the manufacturing of these scarves provides fair-wage jobs for over 50 men and women.

Their recycled sari products are made in conjunction with Connexions, a non-profit vocational training center in Calcutta that trains and employs women from the slum districts. ConneXions wants to be a place where women's educational, vocational, social, emotional and spiritual needs are met. The artisans are trained in English, literacy, math, budgeting. They also take lessons on women issues, such as exploitation, legal rights, health and hygiene.
